Cuproadamite crystals from the Tsumeb Mine, Otavi Mountains, Namibia, Ilse Baer collection– miniature specimen as unique piece
This small cabinet specimen from before 1972 shows Cuproadamine crystals from the Tsumeb Mine in Namibia and originates from the Ilse Baer collection. The piece stands out due to its intense color and the typical formation of this rare arsenate mineral.
The crystals display strong emerald green tones with a vivid luster. They are clearly developed and form a dense crystalline surface composed of many small well defined crystals. The crystals appear fresh and brilliant giving the specimen a particularly attractive and high quality appearance.
Geology & Origin
Cuproadamine is a copper bearing arsenate of the Adamite group forming in the oxidation zone of ore deposits with copper and zinc mineralization. It develops through secondary processes involving arsenic rich solutions and is well known for its intense green coloration.
The Tsumeb Mine in the Otavi Mountains is one of the most important mineral localities in the world. Its exceptional geochemical diversity has produced numerous rare secondary minerals with excellent crystal formation including high quality Cuproadamine specimens from historic collections.
