Cuproadamite and Gartrellite crystals from the Tsumeb Mine, Otavi Mountains, Namibia, Ilse Baer collection– micromount as unique piece

This micromount specimen shows Cuproadamite and Gartrellite crystals from the Tsumeb Mine in Namibia and originates from the Ilse Baer collection. The piece was collected before 1972 and stands out with its vivid coloration and the attractive combination of both minerals.

The crystals display bright green to yellow green tones. They are finely developed and form a dense crystalline surface composed of many small well defined crystals. The crystals show a fresh luster and create a very lively and aesthetically appealing structure due to their dense growth.

Geology & Origin

Cuproadamite and Gartrellite are secondary arsenates forming in the oxidation zone of complex ore deposits. Both minerals develop through copper and zinc bearing solutions and often occur together in strongly oxidized environments.

The Tsumeb Mine in the Otavi Mountains is one of the most important mineral localities in the world. Its exceptional geochemical diversity has produced numerous rare secondary minerals with excellent crystal formation including high quality specimens from historic collections such as the Ilse Baer collection.
