Geology & Origin
Crocoite is a rare lead chromate mineral that forms in the oxidation zone of lead bearing deposits. Its formation requires the interaction of lead and chromium rich solutions and is therefore limited to only a few localities worldwide.
The Obercallenberg locality in Saxony is a classic European occurrence of Crocoite and is known for its characteristic and vividly colored crystal formations.
