Cristobalite crystals from Sakura, Japan – micromount as unique piece
This micromount specimen features Cristobalite crystals from Sakura, Japan. The piece consists of a light to gray porous matrix with numerous small cavities on which fine Cristobalite crystals have formed. The crystals are visibly developed and occur as very small often sparkling aggregates, giving the surface a slightly shimmering texture.
Geologie & Herkunft
Cristobalite is a high temperature polymorph of silicon dioxide and forms mainly in volcanic rocks. It typically develops in gas rich cavities of lava or tuffs where fine crystalline coatings form under high temperature conditions. The locality Sakura in Japan is known for such volcanic formations where Cristobalite occurs in its characteristic fine crystalline habit.
