Crednerite xls from Mendip Hills, UK – miniature specimen as unique piece

This miniature specimen shows Crednerite crystals from the Mendip Hills in the United Kingdom. The piece is set on a light grey to slightly weathered matrix and displays distinct dark crystal areas of this rare copper manganese oxide.

The Crednerite crystals appear as dark, metallic to slightly matte zones with an irregular yet clearly crystalline structure. Individual crystal faces are visible and stand out well from the surrounding matrix, creating a strong contrast between matrix and mineral.

Geology & Origin

Crednerite is a rare oxide mineral composed of copper and manganese, typically forming in the oxidized zones of ore deposits. It develops under specific geochemical conditions and is therefore known from only a limited number of localities worldwide.

The Mendip Hills in England are a classic area for lead and copper mineralization. In the oxidation zones of these deposits, rare secondary minerals such as Crednerite occur in small but collectible crystal formations.
