Colusite from Butte, MT, USA– micromount as unique piece

This micromount specimen with Colusite from Butte, USA, displays a dark metallic matrix covered with numerous finely distributed bronze to copper colored shimmering crystal surfaces. The surface appears densely covered and reflects light in many small sparkling points, giving the specimen a very lively appearance.

The Colusite crystals occur as fine grained to compact aggregates. Individual crystal faces are partly visible and show a metallic luster, even though fully isolated crystals are not dominant. The crystalline nature is still clearly recognizable and typical for this complex sulfosalt mineral.

Geology & Origin

Colusite is a rare copper arsenic vanadium sulfosalt that forms in hydrothermal deposits and is commonly associated with other sulfide minerals. The Butte district in Montana is one of the most important classic localities for complex ore minerals worldwide and is well known for its exceptional mineralogical diversity.
