Coloradoite and Calaverite from Kalgoorlie, WA, Australia – micromount as unique piece

This micromount specimen with Coloradoite and Calaverite from Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, Australia, shows a dark, compact matrix with embedded metallic ore areas. The golden yellow to silvery shimmering zones occur irregularly and form fine grained to slightly crystalline aggregates within the rock.

The Coloradoite and Calaverite crystals are present as small but clearly visible metallic inclusions. Individual crystal faces are only partly distinguishable, yet the crystalline nature is evident through the typical metallic luster and granular structure. The contrast between the dark matrix and the bright reflective areas gives the specimen a strong and classic ore appearance.

Geology & Origin

Coloradoite and Calaverite are rare telluride minerals that typically form in gold bearing hydrothermal deposits. The Kalgoorlie region in Western Australia is one of the world’s most important gold districts and is well known for complex parageneses including telluride minerals. This specimen represents typical formation conditions of such deposits and highlights the close association of gold with telluride mineralization.

This table is for general information and orientation, although the sizes of the stones may vary. In addition, this specification is handled differently from region to region.
