Coconinoite from the Yomac Mine, White Canyon, UT, USA – small cabinet specimen as unique piece

This small cabinet specimen with Coconinoite from the Yomac Mine, White Canyon, Utah, USA, displays a broad, finely structured mineralization on a light to brownish matrix. The surface is covered with numerous small yellow to ochre colored crystal aggregates distributed irregularly across the rock.

The crystals are finely developed and form a dense, granular to slightly crusty texture. Individual crystal shapes are only partly visible, yet the crystalline nature is clearly recognizable through the uniform coating. The warm coloration gives the specimen a calm and natural appearance.

Geology & Origin

Coconinoite is a rare uranium mineral that forms in the oxidized zones of uranium deposits. The White Canyon area in Utah is well known for its secondary uranium minerals formed through weathering and oxidation processes. The fine crystalline coatings on this specimen are typical for such environments and reflect the geochemical mobility of uranium under oxidizing conditions.
