This miniature specimen with embedded Clinoholmquistite crystals from La Ferva, Italy, shows a typical metamorphic occurrence of this rare lithium amphibole. The crystals are embedded in the matrix and form elongated to fibrous structures with dark grey to greenish shimmering coloration.
The Clinoholmquistite crystals are clearly recognizable, even though they are not free-standing. They run through the rock in parallel to slightly radiating aggregates, giving the surface a characteristic textured appearance. The crystalline nature is clearly present and well defined.
Geology & Origin
Clinoholmquistite forms under high-grade metamorphic conditions, typically in lithium-rich rocks. The locality La Ferva in Italy is known for such specific geochemical environments where rare amphiboles can develop. The embedded crystal habit is typical for these formation conditions and reflects the transformation processes within the host rock.
