This small cabinet specimen shows Clinoenstatite in dark green to nearly black areas with locally bronze-colored to silvery luster. The compact, irregularly textured surface displays numerous lustrous areas and clearly differentiated mineral zones. This unique specimen comes from Kohlebornskehre in the Harz Mountains, Germany.
Geology & Origin
Clinoenstatite is a magnesium silicate of the Pyroxene group and the monoclinic modification of Enstatite. The mineral forms under particular temperature and pressure conditions in magnesium-rich rocks. Kohlebornskehre in the Harz Mountains is a mineralogical locality where corresponding silicate-rich rocks and various associated minerals occur.
