Clinochalcomenite crystals on Krutaite from Mina El Dragon, Potosi, Bolivia – micromount as unique piece

This micromount specimen features Clinochalcomenite crystals on Krutaite from Mina El Dragón, Potosí, Bolivia. The piece presents a striking contrast between silvery metallic areas and darker, more compact sections. Fine green to turquoise crystals are distributed across the surface, standing out clearly from the matrix and giving the specimen a vivid and structured appearance.

Geologie & Herkunft

Clinochalcomenite is a rare copper selenite that forms in the oxidized zones of selenium-rich deposits. It develops through secondary processes involving oxygen-rich fluids that alter primary selenide minerals. Krutaite, a copper selenide, represents the primary host mineral in this association. The Mina El Dragón in Bolivia is globally renowned for its exceptional selenium mineral parageneses and is considered one of the most important localities for rare and scientifically significant selenium compounds.
