Chromite from Kop Dağı, Turkey – miniature specimen as unique piece
This miniature specimen with Chromite from Turkey shows a compact dark appearance with metallic to matte lustrous areas. The deep black to dark grey color is typical for Chromite and gives the specimen a strong and distinctive character.
The Chromite crystals are mostly embedded and appear as fine grained to massive aggregates within the matrix. Well formed individual crystals are not clearly visible, but the material forms an irregularly structured surface with a clearly recognizable crystalline nature.
Geology & Origin
Chromite is an important chromium ore and belongs to the spinel group. It typically forms in ultramafic rocks such as peridotites and dunites and is a characteristic mineral of magmatic differentiation.
The Kop Dağı region in Turkey is known for its ophiolitic rock complexes where Chromite deposits are widespread. These form in mantle derived environments and are later brought to the surface by tectonic processes.
This table is for general information and orientation, although the sizes of the stones may vary. In addition, this specification is handled differently from region to region.
