Embedded Chondrodite crystals from Norberg, Sweden – miniature specimen as unique piece

This miniature specimen with embedded Chondrodite crystals from Sweden shows an attractive combination of light translucent matrix and contrasting orange brown crystal areas. The warm color accents are irregularly distributed across the surface giving the specimen a vivid and natural appearance.

The Chondrodite crystals are mostly embedded and appear as granular to partly defined aggregates within the matrix. Individual crystal faces are partly visible but not fully developed. Nevertheless the crystalline nature is clearly recognizable and typical for this magnesium silicate.

Geology & Origin

Chondrodite belongs to the humite group and is a magnesium silicate that typically forms in contact metamorphic calc silicate rocks. It develops at high temperatures through reactions involving magnesium rich rocks with fluorine and silica.

The Norberg deposits in Sweden are known for their complex geology and a wide range of contact metamorphic mineral formations. Especially within the iron and skarn deposits characteristic minerals such as Chondrodite occur regularly.
