Geology & Origin:
The Emperor Mine near Tombstone, Arizona, is a classic locality for secondary silver minerals. Chlorargyrite (also known as horn silver) forms here as a result of the oxidation of silver-bearing ores in the upper zones of the deposit. These distinctive coatings are characteristic of the silver-rich oxidation zones of the American Southwest.
