Chalcotrichite, Cuprite, Azurite, nat. Copper xls and Chrysocolla; Ray Mine, Arizona, USA – 1 unique flat
This visually striking collection originates from the Ray Mine in Arizona USA, a classic locality for copper minerals. The specimens display an impressive combination of bright red Chalcotrichite and Cuprite, deep blue Azurite, and metallic native Copper. They are complemented by vivid turquoise Chrysocolla, providing a strong color contrast within the matrix. The variety of textures — ranging from delicate crystalline coatings to compact intergrowths — gives this flat a particularly aesthetic and collectible character.
Geology & Origin
The Ray Mine in Pinal County, Arizona, is one of the most significant copper deposits in the United States. It is well known for its secondary copper minerals, formed through the oxidation of primary ores in the upper part of the ore body. Hydrothermal activity and supergene alteration produced colorful parageneses of Cuprite, Azurite, Malachite, Chrysocolla, and native Copper. This combination makes the Ray Mine one of the most important reference localities for classic secondary copper minerals.
