Chalcanthite xls; Grandview Mine, Grand Canyon, AZ, USA; 1 unique lot with 18 pieces
Chalcanthite crystals from the Grandview Mine, Grand Canyon, AZ, USA – 1 unique lot with 18 pieces
This lot comprises 18 individual specimens featuring intensely blue Chalcanthite crystals developed on light beige to pale matrix. The crystals occur mainly as fine crystalline to granular coatings and compact aggregates, showing a vitreous to slightly matte surface luster. Color tones range from vivid turquoise to deep copper blue, giving the lot a cohesive and visually striking appearance. Crystals are clearly recognizable but typically small and densely intergrown, which is characteristic for this highly soluble copper sulfate mineral.
Geology & Herkunft
Chalcanthite is a secondary copper sulfate mineral that forms in arid to semi-arid mine environments through the evaporation of copper-rich solutions. These specimens originate from the Grandview Mine, Grand Canyon, Arizona, a classic locality renowned for secondary copper minerals. Due to its high water solubility, Chalcanthite is considered a very delicate mineral whose preservation depends on stable environmental conditions. This lot provides an excellent representation of typical Chalcanthite formation from one of North America’s most significant mineral localities.
