Chabournéite xls; Jas Roux, Hautes-Alpes, France; Scab; unique piece
Chabournéite crystals from Jas Roux, Hautes-Alpes, France – small cabinet specimen as unique piece
Bright orange Chabourneite crystals cover the front face of this grey-toned matrix. The crystals are clearly visible, well-formed, and lustrous, creating a strong contrast with the underlying quartz-rich rock. The distribution is even and typical for the classic locality of Jas Roux, making this a visually appealing and geologically significant specimen.
Chabourneite is a rare copper-antimony sulfosalt, known from only a few localities worldwide. Jas Roux in the French Alps is among the most famous sources, but specimens of this size and quality have become increasingly hard to obtain.
Geology & Origin:
Jas Roux, located in the Hautes-Alpes region of southern France, is a classic site for rare secondary antimony and copper minerals. Chabourneite forms in hydrothermally altered veins in association with quartz, siderite, and sulfide minerals. Its intense color and rarity make it highly sought after by collectors of rare sulfosalts.
