Cerussite and Pyromorphite crystals and Galena from Tanzfleck, Taunus, Germany – small cabinet specimen as unique piece

This attractive specimen from the classic Tanzfleck locality in the Taunus region combines several interesting lead minerals on a single piece. Distinct crystalline areas are visible on the matrix. The Cerussite and Pyromorphite crystals occur within small cavities and on the surfaces of the Galena bearing host rock. The crystals are visibly developed and create an appealing contrast with the metallic luster of the Galena. The combination of several characteristic primary and secondary minerals makes this specimen particularly desirable for collectors.

Geology & Origin

Tanzfleck in the Taunus region is a well known historic locality for lead bearing mineralization. Galena is the primary ore mineral present. Through weathering and oxidation processes, secondary minerals such as Cerussite, a lead carbonate, and Pyromorphite, a lead chlorophosphate, formed from the original ore. Such mineral associations beautifully illustrate the transformation of primary ore minerals within the oxidation zone and are highly valued by collectors of classic German localities.
