Cerite-(Ce) from Bastnäs Gruvan, Sweden – small cabinet specimen as unique piece
This historic small cabinet specimen originates from the famous Bastnäs Gruvan locality in Sweden, one of the world's most important occurrences for rare earth minerals. The specimen displays Cerite-(Ce) as a compact embedded mineralization with brownish to gray-violet tones. The surface exhibits a fine-grained texture with subtle color variations characteristic of Cerite-(Ce) from this classic locality. Crystals are not developed or recognizable on this specimen. The mineral occurs mainly in massive form within the host rock.
Geology & Origin
Cerite-(Ce) belongs to the rare earth silicate group and holds a special place in the history of mineralogy. The mineral was first described from Bastnäs and played an important role in the discovery of several rare earth elements. Bastnäs Gruvan is one of the world's most famous classic rare earth mineral localities and has produced numerous scientifically important mineral species. The deposit formed as a skarn system through interaction between magmatic fluids and carbonate-rich rocks, resulting in an exceptionally diverse mineral assemblage. Specimens from this historic locality are highly valued by collectors of classic European minerals.
