Bobierrite crystals from Kovdor, Kola, Russia – miniature specimen as unique piece
This miniature specimen displays Bobierrite crystals on light colored matrix from the famous alkaline complex of Kovdor on the Kola Peninsula. The translucent to slightly greenish crystal areas occur in compact intergrowth on the host rock and create a varied surface with matte to slightly vitreous luster. The crystals are clearly recognizable and give the specimen an attractive mineralogical appearance.
Geology & Origin
Kovdor on the Russian Kola Peninsula is one of the most important localities for rare phosphate and silicate minerals. Bobierrite is a rare hydrous magnesium phosphate forming there in hydrothermally influenced zones associated with phosphate rich rocks. Because of the exceptional diversity of unusual mineral species, Kovdor has an outstanding reputation among mineral collectors worldwide.
