Manganberzeliite from Langban, Sweden – small cabinet specimen as unique piece
This small cabinet specimen features Manganberzeliite from Langban, Sweden. The specimen consists of dense grayish white to dark gray matrix with fine embedded areas of this rare manganese mineral. Manganberzeliite is visible as compact granular sections showing occasional yellowish to brownish tones within the matrix. Distinct crystals are not developed, but the mineralized areas are clearly recognizable. The typical Langban mineral association and the classic locality make this specimen especially interesting for collectors of rare Scandinavian manganese minerals.
Geology & origin
Langban in Sweden is considered one of the world’s most important localities for rare manganese minerals and is famous for its exceptional mineral diversity. Manganberzeliite is a rare calcium sodium magnesium manganese arsenate forming in complex metamorphosed manganese rich deposits. Minerals from Langban commonly occur in highly complex assemblages together with numerous rare arsenates and silicates. Because of its scientific importance and the large number of mineral species first described there, Langban is regarded as one of the most famous classic mineral localities in the world.
