Duranusite crystals from Duranus, France – miniature specimen as unique piece

This miniature specimen with Duranusite crystals from Duranus, France, shows a rather subtle and typical appearance of this rare mineral. The surface appears mostly compact and finely structured, with only very small and weakly developed crystals present. Individual crystal faces are only visible upon close inspection, and the specimen overall shows a fine grained, matte to slightly silky texture.

The crystals are not forming clearly isolated shapes but are embedded within the matrix, creating a uniform mineral surface. Despite the modest crystal development, the specimen has collector appeal due to the rarity of the mineral and the classic locality.

Geology & Origin

Duranus in southern France is a known locality for rare secondary minerals formed in oxidized zones of ore deposits. Duranusite forms under specific geochemical conditions and typically occurs in fine grained or microcrystalline form. Well developed crystals are uncommon, making even compact specimens like this interesting for specialized collectors.
