Tourmaline crystals from the Lengenbach Quarry, Binntal, Valais, Switzerland –  miniature specimen as unique piece

This small specimen from the Lengenbach Quarry features several greenish Tourmaline zones that stand out clearly against the pale dolomite host rock. The contrasting colours create a balanced yet striking appearance, with the embedded Tourmaline adding visual depth. This single specimen represents an unusual variety from Lengenbach, as Tourmaline is relatively uncommon there compared to the locality’s characteristic sulfosalts.

Geology & Origin

The Lengenbach Quarry in the Binn Valley, Switzerland, is situated within a unique dolomite lens renowned worldwide for its complex mineralisation. In addition to the famous sulfosalts, silicate minerals such as Tourmaline occasionally occur, formed through geochemical interactions within the contact-metamorphic environment. This specimen reflects these exceptional formation conditions and presents a mineral combination that is atypical for Lengenbach yet geologically very intriguing.
