This unique piece features an aggregate of the rare silver selenide mineral Aguilarite on matrix. The mineral appears in metallic gray to silvery areas with a matte to slightly lustrous surface. The specimen comes from Cuchillo, New Mexico, USA, a locality known for its occurrences of silver and selenium minerals. Aguilarite is a rare mineral from the chalcogenide group and crystallizes in the monoclinic system. It contains silver and selenium in nearly equal proportions and often occurs in paragenetic association with other silver minerals. Due to its scarcity and limited localities, Aguilarite is a sought-after collector’s mineral.
