Carboirite with Sphalerite from Calave de Saude, Ariège, France – miniature specimen as unique piece

This miniature specimen features Carboirite intergrown with Sphalerite on a compact matrix. The surface displays numerous finely sparkling crystalline areas, giving the specimen an attractive appearance despite its small size. The dark ore minerals create a pleasing contrast with the lighter gangue material. Individual crystals are visible, although they are mostly small and closely intergrown.

Geology & Origin

Carboirite is an extremely rare sulfosalt mineral known from only a few localities worldwide. The Calave de Saude deposit in the Ariège region of the French Pyrenees is recognized for its complex ore mineralization, where lead, zinc, copper and antimony minerals occur together. Sphalerite, the principal ore of zinc, forms interesting associations with rare sulfosalts at this locality. Due to the rarity of Carboirite, specimens from classic European occurrences are highly appreciated by specialists and collectors of rare ore minerals.
