Capgaronnite and Perroudite crystals from Cap Garonne, Var, France – micromount as unique piece

This micromount features Capgaronnite and Perroudite crystals from Cap Garonne, Var, France. The small but attractive specimen consists of a light slightly translucent to milky matrix on which fine yellowish to greenish shimmering crystal areas have developed. The crystals are clearly visible and give the piece an interesting structure and lively appearance despite its small size.

Geology & origin

Capgaronnite and Perroudite are rare mercury sulfosalt minerals that form in the oxidation zones of mercury rich deposits. The locality Cap Garonne in southern France is a classic site for a wide variety of unusual secondary minerals. These minerals form through complex alteration processes of primary ores under the influence of oxygen and mineral rich solutions, resulting in rare mineral phases in small but often well developed crystals.
