Cannizzarite crystals from Vulcano, Aeolian Islands, Italy – miniature specimen as unique piece

This miniature specimen features rare Cannizzarite on a light volcanic matrix from Vulcano Island. The marked areas indicate the fine dark gray to black Cannizzarite crystals, which contrast distinctly with the pale host rock. The crystals are small but clearly recognizable and are typical of this rare sulfosalt mineral. Owing to the rarity of the species and the classic locality, the specimen has particular appeal for collectors.

Geology & Origin

Cannizzarite is a very rare lead bismuth sulfosalt that was first described from the Aeolian Islands. The mineral forms in volcanic hydrothermal environments where metal-rich gases and solutions react with the surrounding rocks. Vulcano is one of Italy's most important classic localities for rare sublimation and sulfosalt minerals. The unusual geochemical conditions around active fumaroles have produced numerous rare mineral species that are highly valued by collectors worldwide.
