Canavesite crystals from Brosso, Liguria, Italy – miniature specimen as unique piece

This miniature specimen features Canavesite crystals from Brosso, Liguria, Italy. The piece is dominated by a dark metallic looking matrix, on which a striking zone of whitish fibrous to finely crystalline Canavesite has developed. The crystals form a dense, slightly silky surface with a subtle luster, creating a strong contrast with the dark base. The Canavesite crystals are clearly visible and give the specimen a distinctive two part structure with strong visual appeal.

Geology & origin

Brosso is one of the classic localities in northern Italy for rare secondary minerals from the oxidation zones of sulfide ore deposits. Canavesite forms under specific conditions through the alteration of primary minerals and typically occurs in fibrous aggregates. The region is well known for its diversity of rare mineral species and continues to produce interesting collectible specimens with characteristic mineral associations.
