Calcite crystals from the Tsumeb Mine, Otavi Mountains, Namibia, llse Baer collection – cabinet specimen as unique piece

This cabinet specimen displays Calcite crystals in a dense, blocky habit with a predominantly white to slightly translucent appearance. The crystals are firmly seated on the dark matrix and form a compact, richly textured surface with distinct luster on the cleavage faces. The overall composition is well balanced and visually appealing, typical of classic material from Tsumeb. The specimen originates from the Ilse Baer collection and was collected prior to 1972, which significantly enhances its historical and collector value.

Geology & Origin

Calcite is a common calcium carbonate mineral that occurs frequently in the Tsumeb Mine as a late-stage mineralization within hydrothermal ore veins. The world-famous deposit in the Otavi Mountains, Namibia, is renowned for its extraordinary mineral diversity and the high quality of its specimens. Older finds collected before 1972 are considered classic and are increasingly rare on the market today.
