Calciocatapleiite, UV-active, from Norra Kärr, Sweden – small cabinet specimen as unique piece

This interesting small cabinet specimen displays massive to fine grained Calciocatapleiite in a typical greenish gray appearance on compact matrix. The surface shows a dense slightly shimmering texture with fine mineral structures throughout the specimen. Some areas appear uniformly embedded while other sections reveal a faint granular crystal texture. Under UV light the material shows an attractive fluorescence, making this specimen especially desirable for collectors of UV reactive minerals.

Geology & Origin

Calciocatapleiite is a rare zirconium silicate mineral occurring in alkaline rock complexes. The Norra Kärr locality in Sweden is one of the best known European occurrences for unusual rare silicate minerals and rare earth element mineralization. UV reactive specimens from this classic locality are comparatively uncommon and highly appreciated among collectors of Scandinavian minerals.
