Cafarsite crystals from Wannigletscher, Binntal, Switzerland – miniature specimen as unique piece
This miniature specimen features well-defined Cafarsite crystals on contrasting matrix from the Wannigletscher locality in the famous Binn Valley. The crystals display the typical dark brown to blackish-brown coloration of Cafarsite and a distinct sharply developed crystal form. Associated light-colored minerals create an attractive contrast and further emphasize the rare crystal. The clearly developed crystal faces make this specimen particularly desirable for collectors of rare Alpine minerals.
Geology & Origin
Cafarsite is an extremely rare calcium iron arsenate and ranks among the most remarkable mineral species from the Binn Valley. The Wannigletscher locality is one of the classic Swiss occurrences where the mineral formed in Alpine fissures and hydrothermally influenced rocks. Due to its high arsenic content and rarity, Cafarsite is of considerable scientific and collector interest. Well-developed crystals such as those present on this specimen are significantly less common than massive or poorly formed occurrences.
