Burangaite from Buranga, Rwanda – micromount as unique piece
This micromount specimen displays fine Burangaite aggregates in pale to slightly greenish blue tones on a compact, light colored matrix. The crystals are small but clearly crystalline and are well recognizable under magnification. They occur partly as isolated individuals and partly in small groups on the surface, standing out clearly from the host matrix. Despite the small size, crystals are present and distinctly identifiable.
Geology & Origin
Burangaite is a rare aluminium phosphate mineral that typically forms in granitic pegmatites. It develops as a secondary mineral during the late stages of pegmatite evolution, often in close association with other phosphate minerals. The Buranga locality in Rwanda is internationally renowned for its diverse and well developed phosphate minerals. Specimens from this area are considered classic examples illustrating the complex geochemical processes in East African pegmatites.
