Brookite xls; Gorb, Binntal, Switzerland; Scab; unique piece
Brookite crystals from Gorb, Binntal, Switzerland– small cabinet specimen as unique piece
This small cabinet specimen features Brookite as numerous very fine, dark brown to nearly black crystal specks forming a matte, irregular surface. The fine-grained Brookite aggregates stand out clearly from the light matrix, giving this piece from Gorb in the Binntal its distinctly alpine character. The naturally layered texture of the matrix highlights the original appearance of the find.
Geology & Origin
The Binntal, particularly the area around Gorb, is well known for its remarkable diversity of alpine mineral formations, including many titanium minerals such as Brookite. Brookite forms in alpine fissures under high-pressure, low-temperature conditions. The fine-grained Brookite structures on this specimen are typical of these alpine mineralisation processes.
