Brookite crystals from Cherbadung, Binntal, Switzerland– small cabinet specimen as unique piece
This small cabinet specimen shows Brookite as fine, dark green to grey-black crystal aggregates forming an irregular, matte surface. The evenly distributed Brookite contrasts clearly with the light, partly quartz-rich matrix and gives the specimen from Cherbadung in the Binntal its typical alpine character. The fine-grained texture reflects the drusy formation conditions known from this locality.
Geology & Origin
The Cherbadung area in the Binntal is one of the classic alpine sites known for various titanium minerals. Brookite forms in alpine fissures under low-temperature, high-pressure conditions. The fine Brookite aggregates on this specimen are characteristic of Binntal mineralisation and reflect the geologically active history of this alpine region.
