This small cabinet specimen displays Bromargyrite as fine light-yellow to yellow-green coatings forming an irregular, matte surface. Individual crystal faces are not developed; instead, the mineral appears as dense, powdery to crust-like aggregates lining a shallow cavity in the matrix. The characteristic colour range from pale yellow to olive green contrasts sharply with the host rock.
Geology & Origin
Bromargyrite is a rare silver bromide that forms in the oxidation zone of silver-rich hydrothermal veins. The Grand Reef Mine in Arizona is well known for producing unusual halogenides preserved under arid conditions. The interaction of silver-bearing solutions with intense oxidation processes provides ideal conditions for Bromargyrite to develop as fine-grained and crusty aggregates.
