Braggite, Cooperite; Norilsk, Ural, Russia; TN; unique piece
Braggite and Cooperite from Norilsk, Ural, Russia – micromount as unique piece
This micromount specimen features Braggite and Cooperite from Norilsk, Russia. The polished ore surface displays a strong metallic luster with striking golden yellow to brownish tones. The two platinum group minerals form a dense, finely intergrown structure, distributed in irregular patches across the surface. The characteristic ore texture with clearly defined areas makes this piece especially attractive for collectors of platinum group minerals.
Geology & origin
The Norilsk deposits are among the most important magmatic sulfide occurrences worldwide. Braggite and Cooperite are key platinum group minerals that form in nickel and copper rich sulfide melts during cooling and differentiation. Different metal phases crystallize and create complex intergrowths, which are clearly visible in polished sections like this specimen.
