This miniature specimen displays Boussingaultite crystals from the historic locality of Kladno in the Czech Republic. The pale to slightly beige crystal areas rest on compact matrix and show the fine grained to crusty habit typical for this rare sulfate. The natural surface appears matte to silky and gives the specimen a characteristic mineralogical appearance.
Geology & Origin
Boussingaultite is a rare ammonium bearing magnesium iron sulfate usually forming in oxidized deposits or as a secondary mineral in mining environments. The occurrence at Kladno is considered one of the classic European localities for such rare sulfate minerals. Specimens from this region are especially appreciated by collectors of unusual and historic mineral species.
