Boleite xls on Anglesite; Santa Rosalía, El Boleo, BC, Mexico; Scab; unique piece
Boleite crystals on Anglesite from Santa Rosalía, El Boleo, BC, Mexico – small cabinet specimen as unique piece
This small cabinet specimen features intensely blue Boleite crystals on pale Anglesite from St. Rosalia in the famous El Boleo district, Baja California, Mexico. The vivid deep-blue Boleite aggregates appear in finely granular patches across the pale, whitish to beige matrix, forming local concentrations that visually stand out. The striking contrast between the bright blue Boleite and the light Anglesite areas is characteristic of this classic locality. Additional yellow to orange surface zones accentuate the overall appearance of the piece.
Geology & Origin
The El Boleo district in Baja California is one of the world’s most important localities for secondary copper minerals. Its mineralisation developed within a complex oxidation zone above copper-rich ore bodies, where chloride-bearing fluids interacted with metal-rich remnants. Boleite, a rare copper–lead chloride mineral, typically forms in association with lead sulfates such as Anglesite. This paragenesis creates the distinctive color contrast between intense blue and pale sulfate surfaces for which St. Rosalia specimens are well known. This specimen exhibits these classic features in an especially striking manner.
