This miniature specimen displays Bokite in a typical occurrence on a finely crystalline matrix. The surface is covered by numerous tiny sparkling crystal aggregates that give the specimen an attractive texture and subtle metallic luster. Individual crystals are visible and form a fine crystalline coating across large portions of the specimen. For collectors of rare secondary minerals, this piece represents an interesting addition.
Geology & Origin
Bokite is a rare iron arsenate that forms as a secondary mineral within the oxidation zone of arsenic-bearing ore deposits. The Monument #2 Mine in Arizona is a classic locality for rare arsenates and has produced numerous scientifically important mineral discoveries. Weathering of primary ore minerals created complex mineral assemblages with an exceptional diversity of rare species. This specimen originates from this well-known locality and represents the characteristic mineral formation of the deposit.
