This micromount specimen features Bixbyite from 2016 from the N'Chwaning II Mine, Kalahari Manganese Field, South Africa. The piece shows a dense cluster of dark grey to nearly black crystals with clearly defined, sharp-edged forms. The crystals are tightly intergrown on the matrix, creating a strongly structured and highly detailed surface.
Geologie & Herkunft
Bixbyite is a manganese oxide that forms in manganese-rich deposits under oxidizing conditions. It commonly occurs in association with other manganese minerals within complex hydrothermal systems. The N'Chwaning II Mine in the Kalahari Manganese Field is one of the most important localities worldwide and is renowned for its well-formed Bixbyite crystals and wide diversity of manganese minerals.
