Bixbyite crystals with Manganite from the N'Chwaning III Mine, Kalahari Manganese Field, South Africa – miniature specimen as unique piece

This miniature specimen features Bixbyite with Manganite from the N'Chwaning III Mine, Kalahari Manganese Field, South Africa, collected in 2011. The piece shows a compact, metallic luster with densely developed, well-formed crystals in silvery grey to deep black tones. The crystals are clearly visible and display sharp, partly prismatic forms, creating a strongly structured and highly detailed overall appearance.

Geologie & Herkunft

Bixbyite is a manganese oxide, while Manganite is a manganese oxyhydroxide; both minerals form in manganese-rich deposits under varying conditions of oxidation and hydrothermal activity. They commonly occur together in complex parageneses shaped by changing geochemical environments. The N'Chwaning III Mine in the Kalahari Manganese Field in South Africa is one of the most important localities worldwide and is renowned for its well-formed Bixbyite and Manganite crystals as well as its exceptional mineral diversity.
