Bismoclite crystals from Rio Marina, Elba, Italy – miniature specimen as unique piece
This miniature specimen displays fine Bismoclite crystals on contrasting matrix from Rio Marina on Elba Island. The pale to translucent crystal areas rest on dark iron rich rock accompanied by rusty brown oxidation zones, creating an attractive color contrast. The crystals are small but clearly visible on the surface and typical for this historic occurrence.
Geology & Origin
Rio Marina on Elba is one of the classic Italian mineral localities and is especially famous for its iron rich deposits. Besides hematite and other iron minerals, numerous rare secondary minerals have been discovered there. Bismoclite is a rare bismuth oxychloride forming in oxidized zones of bismuth bearing ores. Specimens from Elba are highly appreciated among collectors of historic European localities.
