Beryllonite from Viitaniemi, Finland– micromount as unique piece

 

This specimen presents a light, partially translucent matrix with delicate greenish-white areas. The color palette ranges from milky white to pale pink and greenish-grey zones. The surface is fine-grained with mica-like reflections and a subtle silky luster – characteristic of members of the beryllium phosphate group.

Geology & origin

Beryllonite is a rare sodium beryllium phosphate that crystallizes in the monoclinic system. It forms in granitic pegmatites, where it is typically associated with beryl, triphylite, and other phosphate minerals. The Viitaniemi locality in Finland is a classic site for beryllium-rich pegmatites and has produced scientifically important specimens for decades. This piece is a fine example from this well-known deposit.
