Bertossaite from Buranga, Rwanda – miniature specimen as unique piece
This miniature specimen displays massive to coarse grained Bertossaite in a whitish to slightly beige appearance on compact matrix. The surface shows a vitreous to slightly greasy luster and appears especially compact due to the intergrown structure. The specimen originates from Buranga in Rwanda, a well known pegmatite region in Central Africa famous for numerous rare phosphate and borate minerals.
Geology & Origin
The pegmatites of Buranga in Rwanda are classic localities for rare mineral species formed from granitic residual melts. Bertossaite is a rare lithium calcium borate that develops in complex pegmatite systems under specific geochemical conditions. Such minerals usually occur only in small quantities and are therefore highly sought after by collectors of rare pegmatite minerals. The deposits of Rwanda are world renowned for their diversity of unusual mineral formations.
