This micromount specimen features the rare mineral Benleonardite associated with other secondary minerals from the famous Moctezuma locality. Particularly striking are the intense blue to blue-green mineralized areas, creating an attractive contrast against the light-colored matrix. Fine crystalline coatings and small crystal aggregates are visible, giving the specimen a lively appearance. The colorful presentation makes this piece an appealing collector's specimen for enthusiasts of rare mineral species.

Geology & Origin

Benleonardite is a very rare secondary mineral that forms within the oxidation zone of complex ore deposits. Mina Bambollita near Moctezuma in the Mexican state of Sonora is one of the world's most famous localities for rare arsenate and tellurate minerals and has produced numerous scientifically important discoveries. The exceptional geochemical conditions of the deposit led to the formation of a remarkable diversity of rare mineral species. This specimen originates from this classic locality and represents the unique mineralogy of the deposit.
