Benavidesite in Pyrrhotite; Sätra, Sweden; Min; unique piece
Benavidesite in Pyrrhotite from Sätra, Sweden – miniature specimen as unique piece
This interesting miniature specimen features Benavidesite embedded in a massive Pyrrhotite matrix from the Swedish locality of Sätra. The cut surface reveals the metallic character of the sulfide mineralization with silvery gray to bronze-colored areas and distinct intergrowths within the ore assemblage. Benavidesite occurs embedded within the Pyrrhotite matrix and illustrates the complex formation processes of sulfide-rich ore deposits. Crystals are not developed or recognizable on this specimen. An attractive feature is the accompanying old collection label, which further enhances the specimen's historical collection character.
Geology & Origin
Benavidesite is an extremely rare iron manganese sulfosalt and ranks among the more unusual mineral species sought by specialized collectors. The Sätra locality in Sweden is known for various sulfide ore mineralizations formed under hydrothermal conditions. Such deposits produced complex sulfide assemblages containing numerous rare accessory minerals. Specimens containing Benavidesite are particularly desirable due to the rarity of the mineral and the limited number of known occurrences. Historic specimens accompanied by original old labels also carry additional documentary and collector value.
