Bavenite crystals from Baveno, Lago Maggiore, Italy – miniature specimen as unique piece

This miniature specimen displays Bavenite crystals in a whitish to cream colored appearance on light matrix. The crystals form fine bladed to radial aggregates with a silky to slightly vitreous luster. Smaller transparent associated minerals occur between the Bavenite areas and create additional visual contrast. The material originates from Baveno at Lago Maggiore in Italy, the type locality region of this rare mineral.

Geology & Origin

Bavenite was first described from Baveno at Lago Maggiore and was named after this locality. The rare calcium beryllium aluminum silicate forms in alpine pegmatites and hydrothermally influenced granitic rocks. The Baveno region has been known for centuries for its mineral diversity and produced numerous classic collector minerals. Specimens from the type locality area are especially valued among collectors and mineralogists because of their historical and scientific significance.
