Top Bariopharmacosiderite crystals from the Clara Mine, Black Forest, Germany – small cabinet specimen as unique piece
This small cabinet specimen features exceptionally well developed Bariumpharmacosiderite crystals from the famous Clara Mine in the Black Forest, Germany. Several clearly recognizable cubic crystals with vitreous to slightly greasy luster are positioned on a light quartz rich matrix. The crystals display pale whitish to slightly yellowish tones and form attractive groups on the drusy surface. Especially striking is the contrast between the sharply developed crystal faces and the rusty brown associated minerals in the upper part of the specimen. The crystals are very clearly visible and make this piece an especially aesthetic collector specimen from a classic German locality.
Geology & origin
The Clara Mine in the Black Forest of Germany is one of the most famous mineral localities in Europe and is internationally renowned for its extraordinary diversity of secondary arsenates and sulfates. Bariumpharmacosiderite is a rare barium bearing iron arsenate forming in the oxidation zone of hydrothermal ore deposits. Typical are its cubic crystals with vitreous luster, commonly occurring on quartz or limonitic matrix. The Clara Mine has produced numerous high quality specimens of this rare mineral and is regarded as the type locality for many unusual mineral species.
