Autunite crystals, partly UV-active, from Bergen, Vogtland, Germany– small cabinet specimen as unique piece
This small cabinet specimen displays numerous bright yellow-green Autunite crystals densely scattered across the pinkish-gray matrix. The tabular crystals are clearly visible and give the piece a striking natural coloration. Under UV light, many of the crystals show strong fluorescence, making the specimen especially appealing to collectors of fluorescent minerals.
Geology & Origin
Autunite is a secondary uranium phosphate formed in the oxidized zones of uranium-bearing deposits. The Bergen area in Vogtland is well known for its diversity of uranium minerals occurring in weathered pegmatites and hydrothermal veins. The combination of vivid natural color and UV activity makes this locality particularly desirable for collectors.
