Argyrodite crystals on Pyrargyrite from Colquechaca, Bolivia– micromount as unique piece
This micromount features finely textured Argyrodite crystals on dark Pyrargyrite matrix from Colquechaca, one of Bolivia’s classic silver districts. The metallic, iridescent surfaces of the Argyrodite display vivid blue, violet, and silvery tones that contrast strongly with the Pyrargyrite beneath. The crystals are small but clearly identifiable by their characteristic metallic structure, giving the specimen an attractive shimmering appearance.
Geology & Origin
Argyrodite is a rare silver–germanium sulfide halide that forms in metal-rich hydrothermal veins. The Colquechaca locality is renowned for its historic silver deposits and complex mineral assemblages where species such as Argyrodite and Pyrargyrite develop. High silver content, sulfur-rich fluids, and variable temperatures create ideal conditions for the formation of these distinctive crystals.
